Bachelor's Pad

Are you all bachelors?” “Sorry, bachelors are not allowed to live in this society.” “No accommodation available for bachelors, only family people allowed here.

Those were few questions and answers which were fired on us (Ankur, Tanmeet & I) from almost all the estate agents/brokers and also from the security guards of the various societies at Goregaon.

After trying for more than an hour, we found a broker who gave us the asurity of getting us a flat. That broker took us to a distant location (a society near the Filmcity), when we refused to see that flat (since it was very far from our office) and asked him to get us a flat near our office, then he told us, "Sorry sir. Those societies have made a decision that no flats on rent to the bachelors. But you don't worry, sir, give me some more time and I’ll arrange for some flat near to your office..."

Another one gave us the reason that the bachelors living in the society have parties at their place, play loud music and create nuisance. They also drink and vomit in the open space and sometimes they bring girls with them which all are unacceptable to the families living there.

So that's how it is. No country for the refugees of Bangladesh. No food for starving people in Somalia. No trees for migrating Siberian birds. And yes, no houses for poor bachelors like us.

You won’t believe but even of the broker suggested us that we should get married or try to have a live-in relationship with someone from the opposite gender. He even gave us an example where two call center employees started living together because they were unable to find a decent flat to live. What is this, on one hand people here oppose live-in relationships and on the other hand directly or indirectly they themselves are encouraging this.

Anyways, we have learnt our lesson: Bachelor’s can’t enjoy all the civil rights which others may… Like they can’t live in a decent society, they can’t party at home, they are not allowed alone in the disc or else they have to pay a hefty sum for the entry…

There are many other problems related to bachelorhood but here I’ve only discussed those which we’ve faced till date, in finding a bachelor’s pad…

Yes I agree that being a bachelor now days can prove to be disadvantageous. But i will not completely blame the people for their change in attitude towards the bachelors. Their has been some irresponsible behaviour on part of certain individuals which has led to the discomfort of common people in general. It's not wrong to party, but if partying is a source of discomfort to the people, who have a family and who also have their right to leave peacefully, then their has to be a fundamental change in the way of enjoyment!!
Unless we the youth, the 'bachelors' bring about a fundamental change in our attitude, its hard for other people to look up to us as a bunch of responsible individuals!!!

By the way I did like the idea given by one of the brokers about having a live in relationship to find accomodation :)What do you say man?? Let's give it a shot!!

@Megha: Yeah, the life of a bachelor isn't easy, as most of the people think it is... Anyways rite now I'm enjoying my bachelorhood except on that day when for few odd minutes a thought striked my mind that "Why are we still bachelors???" Btw for the invitation card you still have to wait for few more years... :)

@Niraj: Ya, I agree that youths have to change their attitude but the families should also not judge every bachelor on the same scale... You know that how decent we ppl are and then too we're facing such problems... ;) And about the idea of having a live-in relationship, I doubt that we'll be able to find a suitable partner... :)

Anshul, a nice blog.
The topic you raised is a good point of discussion. But this is one of the topics on which we didn’t get a chance to argue with the right persons which are land lords. Even if you raised the point bachelors facing problems in finding a good society to leave for still there are many thing which only bachelors can enjoy but others can’t.

wah wah!!!!..kya baat hai anshul...tumne to bachelors ki dukhti rat par haath rakh diya... but one thing dude...very important u miss the point...this kind of problems are only faced by bachelors BOYS...girls r not at all included....so u can very well say that living together or marraige r just solutions and answer to a very ancient question...--"har successfull aadmi ke peeche ek aurat ka haath hota hai"...no matter u r a bachelor seeking 4 a falt to live or a married man....

@Rohit: I totally agree with you that inspite of these problems there are many things which only a Bachelor can enjoy... U see everything has its own pros and cons...

@Anonymous(Appu): Well said... Y, its true that girls dont have to face these problems whereas there are other problems associated with their livelihood...

gud one...same thing happened with me few months back in chandigarh..finally I got a "kothi" with list of instructions, some of which are as below
1.)No frnds allowed
2.)No outing after 9PM
3.)No Tiffin wala,(Started Cooking …he he..very soon I’ll be expert in tht )
4.)No doodh wala n all (Servants are der for all)
5.)No smooking, drinking
6.)Morning walk is mandatory [Missing my morning dreams :-) ]etc…

What do u think about this routine and healthy life ?

I think at this front we have to compromise and will have to see from their point of view.. as u mentioned tht

“the reason that the bachelors living in the society have parties at their place, play loud music and create nuisance. They also drink and vomit in the open space and sometimes they bring girls with them which all are unacceptable to the families living there.”
Are they wrong? Only coz we are bachelors, we are authorized for all these?

Who says “Marriages are made in Heaven” ???

Who says “ Marriages are made in Heaven ” ??? I don’t say so, atleast after what I’ve seen yesterday… Yesterday I went to a doctor’s cli...
